HannaVihriälä:BlowingFlower
Presented at the new Tiilikello x Polestar art space, Puhalluskukka (Blowing Flower) represents momentum. However, how the work is constructed is all but exactly the opposite. It is an attempt to hold onto and remain intact a situation that is already disappearing. Through the work, one might feel not only joy but also wistful toward all that has been or is yet to come. Made out of beads, the piece is like a 3D watercolor that the artist tunes according to the space. The constant interests in Vihriälä’s work are areas that remain somewhere between sculpture, painting, and graphics.
Hanna Vihriälä (formerly Jaanisoo) is a Finnish contemporary artist and sculptor. Vihriälä’s works have been exhibited in numerous art museums and galleries both in Finland and abroad, such as the Wäinö Aaltonen Museum, Galleria A2, and Upton Gallery. Vihriälä’s work is also in many public spaces as well as museum collections. Vihriälä has studied fine arts at Liminga Art School and the University of Lapland, graduated as a sculptor from the Estonian Academy of Arts, and holds a master’s degree in art from the Helsinki Academy of Fine Arts. Vihriälä’s works are almost always built according to the space, often from small parts, pearls, little stones, and candies. The work is complete when the idea continues its life in the material, and the work supports itself. It builds its relationship with the surrounding space and people.
