Waves of Inner Peace is a two-part, one-hour audiovisual work using reel-to-reel tape recorders, c-cassette players, and the rarely seen Elcasett player. The devices are used to play back sound from a variety of sources, including synthesizers, a string section, prepared piano, and kantele. The tape loops underline sound’s ties to time: the sounds enter and fade away, revealing their fragility and the transient nature of their beauty. Time passes and takes with it what it will, which is, basically, everything. There’s a beauty in this certainty and it’s that beauty that Waves of Inner Peace goes for.
